Traveling westward from Medan, Sumatra, you reach a town called Bukit Lawang! A terrific place to stay while visiting the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre on the Bahorok River!

Berastagi is a small town in Sumatra surrounded by two volcanos, Mt. Sibayak (2095m) and Mt. Sinabung (2451m). Lots of local culture here! It's high up and the evenings get cool! A terrific place to hike, climb, enjoy a wonderful natural sulphur bath! You can even find a medicine man to put the right "magic" into your "magical" carvings!

Two villages between Berastagi and Lake Toba provide a historical look at the interesting architecture of days gone by! These buildings have withstood the test of many earthquakes. Some of these buildings date back 200 years!

Lake Toba originated from early volcanic eruptions. It's reputed as one of the highest and biggest lakes in the world at 2800 feet above sea level, 1707 square km and 450 meters deep. This is definitely a place just to relax and enjoy? Samosir Island is in the middle of the lake and provides all the amenities for everyone! The accommodations are great, food is terrific and a perfect place to take it easy and do what makes you happy!

On the road from Lake Toba, you cross the equator to get to Bukit Tinggi and Lake Maninjau. More culture, great scenery and historical houses!
